Individual Counseling and Parent/Guardian Support - Q&A
Who is your typical client?
My typical client is neurodivergent or has what I refer to as a “differently-wired brain”. Many are Gifted, ADHDers, Autistic, anxious, or a combination of these. My clients range from 13 to ~60 years old and live all over Colorado (where I am licensed to serve them). I believe that learning as much as you can about how YOUR brain works is invaluable for navigating life and having more predictably positive experiences. My clients are interested in learning about themselves, growing more confident, and living a more authentic and peaceful life.
Do you also work with children younger than teenagers?
I prefer to work with younger children in person and, at this time, I do not have a physical office to host such sessions. I recently moved to the Western Slope of Colorado (Montrose, CO) and have not yet secured a physical office for in-person sessions. I would be happy to meet with your child in the Montrose area at their school, if that is permitted by their school's administration. Otherwise, you are welcome to add your name to my waitlist and I can reach out to you once I have secured a physical space. (You may reach me and make this request by sharing your wishes via the “Request consultation” link.)
Where can clients meet with you?
For individual counseling, I meet nearly all of my clients via a secure and HIPAA compliant web meeting room (also known as teletherapy). I am happy to meet with your child or student in their (Montrose, CO area) school, if approved by their school’s administrator. I also enjoy helping organizations to build capacity to better serve neurodivergent and any otherwise complex needs of youth. For more information about professional learning, study sessions, or presentations, see the "Presentations" page.
How long is each session?
The typical counseling session is 45-50 minutes. The first session or two might be a bit longer (55-60 minutes) as we complete a thorough intake process. I work hard to learn as much as I can in these first sessions to help inform a thoughtful plan for your treatment. Note that our work does not end when the session is over! I am committed to seeing you grow and improve. To that end, I will assign "homework" for clients to practice in between sessions.
What is your fee?
My fee for therapy sessions is $140.00 per session. I also reserve two slots with reduced fees. If you are interested in working with me and want to inquire about a reduced fee slot, follow this link to “Request consultation” and let me know of your interest. I will personally reply via email to address your availability/fee-related questions. Payment is due at the time of service.
Do you accept insurance?
I do accept insurance! I do my best to keep the list of insurances and programs up to date on my profile here (scroll down on the linked page to see the list). Insurance plans and credentialing can change, so I encourage you to inquire, if you do not see your provider on my list. You are welcome to enter your insurance details to see what you’ll pay before ever requesting a consultation with me. Follow this link to learn more.
What forms of payment do you accept?
In addition to accepting insurance, I welcome clients to pay by credit/debit card (including an HSA card). Your payment information is protected and simple to manage through my "autopay" system.
How often or for how long can a client expect to see you?
Most clients participate in therapy weekly. Committing to and prioritizing that time is ideal. Occasionally, people attend therapy more often. Others may reduce frequency once things improve. Often, clients come for a few months until they get back on track. This is considered shorter term counseling. Some clients use therapy for a period of time, take a break, and return when they are ready or need to do more work. Other clients benefit from longer-term counseling. They may have long standing issues, difficult childhood or recent experiences, on-going stressors in school, work, relationships, performance, or multiple issues that require a lengthier counseling process. I work with clients to make the adjustments that work best for them--up to and including terminating routine sessions or referring to another provider, should the client present needs outside of my expertise.
